HTC Incredible S: the Incredible

HTC Incredible S comes as a smartphone with a powerful multimedia performance. It equipped with 8 MP camera and records videos in HD format. HTC always comes with great smartphones whether with Windows Mobile 7 or Android system. Incredible S is the latest smartphone from the Taiwanese company after the successful HD7, HD2, Desire Z and of course the magnificent HTC Thunderbolt. Obviously that the manufacturer gives a lot attention on Multimedia when designing HTC Desire S. Not only 8 MP camera with ability to records video on 720p, the FM radio and MP3 players are also on board. The best thing is the SRS WOW is available to provide virtual surround sound. The design is quite special. As any other smartphones from HTC, the Incredible S comes with extra large display screen; 4.0 inches S-LCD capacitive touch screen. The focusing screen is set in the upper league, one of the ten largest of all current Smartphones on the market is saturated and 62 percent higher than their average. Thanks to Super-LCD technology, the contrasts are strong; the energy consumption compared to normal LCD is a bit less intense. The readability outdoors could not keep up with AMOLED and Super AMOLED displays, natural colors and fonts for fall somewhat sharper. Small fonts in the main menu or in the browser nicely sharp on HTC Incredible S.

HTC Incredible S: Whats in it?

HTC Incredible S comes with 1.5 gigabytes of internal memory which 1.1 gigabytes is free. In addition, a standard micro-SD card comes with two gigabytes. It supports a maximum of 32 gigabyte chips according to the manufacturer. The grapevine WLAN is supported with the current standard 802.11 n, quad band will speed up the nearly worldwide users in GSM and UMTS radio cells, the data turbo HSDPA and HSUPA downloads at up to 14.4 and to send data to a maximum of 5.76 megabits per second. A GPS receiver for satellite-based positioning is of course also on board with the Google Maps 5.3.1. The program controls the acoustic route guidance including street names as well as pedestrian navigation. In addition, the map rotates synchronously with the desired orientation of the phone, which helped considerably in the pedestrian mode of orientation. In addition to push email via Exchange Active Sync, the HTC an Office suite, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF files show and edited the first-mentioned formats even on the phone. Thanks to DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance), multimedia content via wireless transfer to compatible devices such as televisions. The sound in the listening test for male voices a bit dull, but perfectly understandable. Female speakers were transmitted clearly. The same goes for the speakerphone.

Multimedia

Camera on HTC Incredible S

The equipment of the camera is kept within a manageable framework. The autofocus can be positioned by means of a finger tips on the touch-sensitive screen ("Touch Focus") to request the GPS coordinates of the location will be saved at any recording ("Geo") and twelve effects to add small art works . The Incredible S camera also comes with face recognition and a self-timer. Exposure, saturation, contrast, white balance and the ISO number (between 100 and 800) can be adjusted manually. Two LED on the back lit close range from acceptable. A shutter button is unavailable; instead there is a button on the touch screen. The autofocus started automatically whenever you change the subject, which saves in the crucial moment. Photos with a maximum of 3264 x 2448 pixels succeed properly - as you would expect in the 8-megapixel class. Above all, it is striking that interior shots are better than most other players in this league. This might be due to the comparatively large meadow lens that lets more light falling on the sensor, which enables faster shutter speeds. On the other hand, the photos on an above-average high color noise, dark areas have increased missing pixels. Overall, the image quality is good.

Video

HTC Incredible S records video with a maximum of 1280 x 720 pixels. The 23 frames per second are not enough to move or pan liquid play. The automatic exposure jerky, so there may be sudden changes in image brightness. The sharpness of the clips is not convincing as well. Many details remain unclear. The sound quality is relatively good.

Music

As usual with Android, the MP3 player sorts music files by title, artist and album, but not by genre. The Sense interface of HTC presents the different views as icons at the bottom, over which one can slide a finger. Unfortunately, the presentation is still decreasing, despite repeated criticism on the first position (sort by artist) instead of remembering the last setting. The equalizer has 13 permanent preferences in store, but can not be adjusted manually. The algorithm of SRS WOW Mobile is supposed to improve the acoustics, which did not work very well on the test because of the unnatural sound, either when playing videos or music. It still need more improvements on sound quality but compared to Nokia N81 the sound quality of HTC Incredible S is at very good level. The menu of Android 2.2 with the combination of HTC Sense 3.0 performs good menu. All icons are lined up vertically into four columns, the kinetic scrolling works quickly and accurately. Alternatively, smaller icons and line by line, sorted alphabetically, which leaves more room for the caption. Unfortunately, the icons do not move by drag and drop, as it has recently fallen on the LG Optimus Speed

Keyboard

The virtual QWERTY keyboard in landscape mode to measure relatively large 7.1 x 6.5 millimeters and are thus more than a third higher than the average of all current smartphones with virtual keyboard. The distances to each other with just 0.1 millimeters are extremely low. The software still recognizes as reliable, which letters have been targeted. Even with the faster, less careful typing the error rate approaches zero. The strong tactile feedback confirms all entries with a short vibration. Decimal point and sit on separate buttons on either side of the space bar, which saves a lot of time in practice. Umlauts must be generated by holding down the key reason (such as the "a" for "") and then selecting from a pop-up line. This can be found on the right side of the keyboard four arrow buttons to facilitate navigation through already existing text. All the best, then, something can be! The voice input of Android, by which you can fill text fields by means of spoken words, currently only English, and not even particularly good. Tip rot will have to wait until Google has updated the function.

HTC Incredible S

Conclusion

The multimedia on HTC Incredible S is fine. You have seen better 8-megapixel photos, the video's own recordings not that fond of, and made the sound of the music player but a solid "very good", does not belong in the top group with the iPhone 4 and said Desire HD. Also, drag and drop movement will be a good feature on HTC Incredible S.
