Tricks for the HTC Evo ~ Android Tips

The HTC Evo 4G is a touchscreen mobile phone released exclusively for Sprint wireless customers in the summer of 2010. The Evo 4G uses CDMA technology and does not need a SIM card. The phone features an 8.0-megapixel digital camera, up to 32 gigabytes of storage space with a memory card and a 1 GHz processor.

The Evo 4G has both Google Maps and GPS navigation. To use Google Maps, hit the "Home" key and go to "Menu." Select "Settings" and pick "Location." You must enable the "Use Wireless Networks" and "Use GPS Satellites" options. Once this is done, go to "Home," "Menu" and "Maps." Hit "Menu" and pick "My Location." Google Maps will show you exactly where you are. Get to the GPS screen by going to "Home," "Menu" and "Sprint Navigation." You can search for directions based on where you are or where you want to go.

The main screen of the phone works like a computer desktop. You can drag icons around and make sure you have your favorite applications in an easy-to-find location. Add new programs and other applications by going to the "Main Menu," choosing "Options" and selecting "Add to Home." You can then choose between folders, programs, applications, widgets and shortcuts you have saved on the Evo 4G. To move the icons on the main screen in the order you want, just press down on one until the phone indicates it is selected.

The screen of the Evo 4G times out after a while to save energy. If it seems like the timeout is too long or short for your taste, go to "Settings," pick "Sound and Display" and choose "Screen Timeout." Wait until the amount of time you want has passed and hit the screen to pick your desired timeframe. Tap "Home," "Menu" and "Wallpaper" to change your background. You can scroll through preset images and pictures you have taken.

Customize your phone by adding personal ring tones and photos to the people in your contacts list. Go to "People" and find the contact you want. Click on the contact name and scroll until you see "Ring Tone." You can scroll through all the audio files in your phone and select one. To place a photo next to a contact, go to the contact and hit "Edit." Tap the "Camera" button, pick "Gallery" and find the photo you want.
