Technology has given use opportunity to push our civilization far into the future. It is astonishing how fast it spawned and how rapidly it is growing. It is also fearful to think about the negative consequences it may bring.
Technology has given use opportunity to push our civilization far into the future. It is astonishing how fast it spawned and how rapidly it is growing. It is also fearful to think about the negative consequences it may bring.
Take a walk and consciously observe the amount of people who are plugged in to this system. We have Iphone, ipad, android, blackberry, blue berry, strawberry. Instant communication at our finger tips. we have created a world of digital interface that will make or break the future of our youths. How will we adapt to a median that changes by the second. We are overloaded with information. Products that were suppose to pull us together has driven us apart. social interaction is becoming less apparent. More people are falling subject into this hypnotic madness. This hub was inspired by a colleagues post entitled "idiotocracy" by Penny Carey. I came to realize as we become more independent on technology we dumb ourselves down more and more in the process.
How many of you Huber's actually pulled out a dictionary to correct your misspellings? How many skip equating formulas by typing buttons on a calculator? and the funny thing is, these are very acute examples. Most of the more dramatic effects are less obvious. Well at least for now.
Some claim that tech has given use the comparative advantage, to shortcut certain steps in process. but by bypassing these steps i believe we diminish our ability to reason and think critically. We are becoming autonomous, pushing buttons and pulling levers. I think Kurzweil was right about the singularity. I just think its going to happen in a slightly different way.
